ACS In Your Region
Bringing Great Programming to You!
The ACS hosts 8-10 Regional Meetings each year.  These meetings are mini
national meetings with parallel sessions, social events, vendors etc. tailored
to the interests of the chemists in the area.

The Middle Atlantic Regional Meeting (MARM) takes place each year in the
area between Washington, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York.

Les McQuire was Program Co-Chair for
MARM 2005.

Regional Boards are responsible for Regional activities however these are
usually limited to the Regional Meeting which is organized by a planning team
usually drawn from the host Local Section(s).

A Regional Activities Coordination Team (
ReACT) and an ad hoc working
group prepared extensive guides and documentation to help transfer
information between Regions and from one meeting to the next.

The Geographical Organization sub-group of the Governance Review Task Force also
considered how Local Sections, Regionals and the National ACS could best interact.  Les' role on
this team and his membership of the Local Section Activities committee gave him an enhanced
understanding of the challenges and opportunities the various Sections and Regions have.
ACS Leadership Development courses
are now available at Regional
Meetings. Click above to learn more.

Regional Meetings allow ACS members to:

Connect with other chemists and chemical engineers in their geographic area

Participate in programs near their homes that can enhance their professional development

Contribute to the public’s understanding of chemistry in their communities.

Allow local sections independently or in groups to work on a larger meeting than they could alone

Regional Meetings can encourage different groups to participate in ACS and their participation
can continue long after the regional meeting
