Broad, Deep Experience of ACS Programs
Building Members, Building Programs, Building Synergies
Les has a deep knowledge and experience of an unusually broad range of
ACS programs, activities and volunteers.

Les has worked with many of our ACS volunteers from all parts of ACS and with a
wide range of ACS experiences.

Les chaired the largest
Local Section, North Jersey, is a member of 5 Divisions, has
organized symposia at the
National meeting for 3 of them and served on the Long
Range Planning Committee of the Medicinal Chemistry Division.  He served as
program Co-Chair for one of the largest
Regional Meetings ever (MARM 2005) and
Chaired sub-committees on
LSAC and the Committee of Corporation Associates.
Les has been an active participant in each of these roles and have served on
several Task Forces and groups to enhance ACS operations and member services,
including the
Board Oversight Group on Leadership Development).  He has
facilitated at several Leadership training sessions for Local Section Leaders and
Regional Meeting Planners,  Les was a member of
ReACT (Regional Activities
Co-ordination Team) which worked to help Regions and Regional Meetings and he
has participated in strategic planning sessions for
Local Sections and Corporation
Associates.

In 2006 Les was elected to serve on the National
Committee on Committees where
he served as liaison to the
Budget and Finance Committee and the Committee on
Economic and Professional Affairs.  In 2008 the members of the Committee on
Committees elected Les as their Chair.  He has served as Chair of the committee
2009-2011.

Les also served as Chair of one of the
Presidential sub-themes for the Boston (Fall
2007) National meeting.

Les is active in scientific organizations outside ACS and Chaired the 2008
Medicinal
Chemistry Gordon Research Conference having organized the technical program at
the 2007 conference.  He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the
Royal
Society of Chemistry (US East Coast) Section.  These roles all let Les see how
different groups operate, develop their leaders and match volunteers with
responsibilities.  This experience has also shown Les the advantages of including
diverse opinions and experiences within an organizing Team.
Les has organized a variety of technical meetings, locally, nationally and for other scientific societies.
