A conference call with local Section Leaders to discuss Alliances and how
they can enhance Section activities.

Meeting and Project SEED Poster Session
Seton Hall, NJ
Discussed the SEED students research, evaluated their posters and then
helped with the logistics of presenting awards to 100+ students.  The
Executive Committee met after the poster session.

September 23rd, 2006: Royal Society of Chemistry Fall Meeting
Baltimore, MA
The RSC (US East Coast) section held its Fall meeting and Prof. Richard
Lutz, gave an excellent talk on "The Mid-Ocean Ridge Erupts in 2006!".

September 8-14th, 2006: ACS National Meeting

Another very busy week of meetings and technical sessions.  I was also
elected by the ACS Council to serve on the ACS Committee on
Committees.

August 25-27th, 2006: Board Oversight Group on Leadership
Development Pilot
Chicago, Il
The Board Oversight Group (BOG) on Leadership Development organized
a pilot for two of the training modules.  This was a great weekend to interact
with other ACS volunteers, participate in high quality training and to evaluate
what the BOG has already put together.

Strategic Planning Session
Washington, DC
The Executive Committee met with staff and consultants to review and
discuss the groups value proposition and the related goals and objectives

August 6-11th, 2006: Medicinal Chemistry Gordon Research
Conference
New London, NH
This is the premier Med. Chem. conference and the attendees discussed
cutting edge work while enjoying extensive opportunities to interact and to
take part in outdoor activities.  I served as vice Chair-elect and with serve in
a Leadership role for the next two conferences.

July 15th, 2006: North Jersey Section Summer Picnic
New Brunswick, NJ
An opportunity to network with NJ chemists and ACS leaders.  There was
significant discussion related to the new section committee focused on
enhancing communication with the Topical Groups.

July 13th, 2006: LSAC Executive Conf. Call
A detailed discussion and planning conference call as a follow-up to the
Local Section Summit.

June 9-11th, 2006: Leadership Pipeline Meeting
Dallas, TX
The Pipeline Group reviewed progress on the development of a new
Leadership Pipeline for ACS.

June 6th, 2006: Corporation Associates Executive Conference Call
The Executive Committee discussed the agenda and goals for the strategic
planning session.

June 6th, 2006: LSAC Executive Committee Teleconference
The Executive Committee discussed the agenda for the San Francisco
National Meeting and the Local Section "Outstanding" performance awards.

June 2-4th, 2006: ReACT Meeting
Milwaukee, WI
This group charged with developing tools to help Regions and Regional
Meetings be all they can be met for the last time.

May 25th, 2006: North Jersey Executive Committee Operations e-mail
Initiated a discussion about ways to enhance the effectiveness and
efficiency of the Section's Executive Committee meetings while also
improving the dialog about key issues within the Committee and with
Section members.

May 25th, 2006: Board Oversight Group Metrics Sub-Group
Teleconference
A short discussion with Paul Jones and Richard Cobb about ways to
evaluate and track the success of the new ACS Leadership Development
activities.

May 22-24th, 2006: Preparing the LSAC Response to the ACS
Governance Review Task Force Ideas
I served on the Geographical Organization group and wanted to ensure that
LSAC's comments addressed the key issues but also focused the
discussion on ways to enhance member value and benefits.

May 20th, 2006: Royal Society of Chemistry, Spring Meeting
Poughkeepsie, NY
The RSC (US East Coast) section held its Spring meeting and Dr. Paul
Stonehart, a former section President, gave a talk on "Making Money in
Chemistry".

May 17th: North Jersey Executive Committee Meeting and Awards

The short Executive Committee meeting focused on ways to more
effectively involve Topical Groups and their Leaders in wider Section and
ACS discussions.  I was delighted to present Bill Suits with the Section's
Burton C. Beldon Distinguished Srvice Award for his many and varied
contributions to the ACS and the Section.

May 17th, 2006: Sanofi-Aventis Visions in Chemistry Symposium
North Branch, NJ
I attended this wonderful symposium featuring outstanding talks and
excellent opportunities to meet Chemists from a wide range of NJ
organizations.

May 12th: ReACT Teleconference
This focused on further developing the Mission and Vision statements for
Regional Boards and Regional Meetings.

May 8th, 2006: Established "LunkheadIdeas.org"
The idea of "Lunkhead Ideas" and their potential to transform ACS
appeared at the ACS Local Section Summit.  To learn more see the new
web-site: LunkheadIdeas.org.

May 5-7th, 2006: Local Section Summit
Washington, DC
LSAC invited a broad selection of diverse ACS members to come together
with the LSAC Executive Committee, Staff and a consultant to discuss how
to build the future of Local Sections and ACS.

May 3rd, 2006: ReACT Conference Call
Members of the Regional Activities Team discussed progress on action
items and planned the agenda for their next face-to-face meeting.

May, 2006: Reviewing 2005 Local Section Annual Reports
The members of LSAC spend a great deal of time and effort reviewing and
giving feedback on Local Section Annual Reports.

April 28th to 30th, 2006: ACS Board Oversight Group on Leadership
Development
Washington, DC
The Group reviewed the progress made by consultants on the new ACS
leadership system and provided input and guidance.

April 22nd, 2006: Indicator Committee Meeting
Hackensack, NJ
The committee discussed ways to improve the Newsletter, the related
"TheIndicator.org" web-site and increase revenue and member service.

April 20th, 2006: LSAC "Best Practices" Local Section Teleconf.
Members of LSAC, ACS staff and Leaders of Local Sections listened to
and questioned experts who described how they made some of their event
or processes outstanding.

April 7th, 2006: RSC(US) Executive Committee Meeting

The committee reviewed the 2005 Section Report, the 2006 budget and
plans for 2006 & 7.

April - May, 2006: Activities of the NoJ ACS Nominating Committee
The members of the North Jersey Nominating Committee have various
discussions and interactions to consider and select the slate for the 2006
NoJ ACS election.

This great party was a chance to celebrate with Yorke and his family and to
chat with chemists and ACS leaders from North Jersey and New York.

Attended, along with 700+ others, this wonderful meeting featuring 6
outstanding chemists.  I served on the organizing committee for this
symposia 3 times.

Wrote the "Alliance" column for the ACS e-newsletter "Leading Together".

March 10th, 2006: Corporation Associates Conference Call
Conference call with the CA Executive committee to discuss, review and
plan activities.

March 7th, 2006: Publicity for MARM 2006
Sent e-mails to MARM 2005 presenters, friends and contacts to encourage
participation in MARM 2006.

March 4th, 2006: Gordon Research Conference Chairs Training
Boston, MA
Attended a training session for people entering the Chair progression for
GRCs.

February 13th, 2006: Novartis Young Investigator Award Symposium

Organized the Novartis Young Investigator Award Presentation and
Symposium (unfortunately I missed the event because a blizzard on the East
Coast trapped me in Quebec City!)

February 8th, 2006: North Jersey Committee Manual
Circulated updated committee (Planning, Indicator and Industrial)
responsibilities for inclusion in the Section's Committee Manual.

February 6th, 2006: RSC/ACS Planning Discussion
Cambridge, MA
Meeting with Mukund Chorghade (Chair-elect, Northeastern Section ACS &
Member-at-large RSC US-Section).
Discussion about holding an ACS/RSC event in Cambridge along the lines
of Chemistry As A Life Science or some of the larger North Jersey Topical
Group symposia.

Prepared the report on the Cope Scholar Award Symposium at MARM
2005 for inclusion in the sections annual report and interacted with Bill
Greenlee of the Division of Organic Chemistry about nominating the
Symposium (and the OTG's Spring symposium on a similar topic) for the
ACS Chemluminary Award for joint activities

Wendy and I were again delight to provide the location for the Section's
Holiday Party.

Saturday, Jan. 14th, 2006: Indicator Advisory Committee
FDU, Madison, NJ.
Chaired the annual meeting of the group which is responsible for all aspects
of the Indicator's operation.  The Indicator is the newsletter of the North
Jersey and New York ACS Sections.

January 12th, 2006: E-mail to the members of N&E
To express my interest in serving on the ACS Committee on Committees.   

January 5th, 2006: North Jersey's National Award Committee
Contacted key leaders at the large companies employing chemists in the
New Jersey area and encouraged them to nominate their chemists for some
of the National ACS awards.  Val Kuck and I lead the Section's National
Award Committee which tries to increase the number of Section members
nominated for National Awards.

members took responsibility to prepare reports on different activities etc.
