Meeting and Project SEED Poster Session
Seton Hall, NJ
Discussed the SEED students research, evaluated their posters and then
helped with the logistics of presenting awards to 100+ students. The
Executive Committee met after the poster session.

The RSC (US East Coast) section held its Fall meeting and Prof. Richard
Lutz, gave an excellent talk on "The Mid-Ocean Ridge Erupts in 2006!".

Another very busy week of meetings and technical sessions. I was also
elected by the ACS Council to serve on the ACS Committee on
Committees.
August 25-27th, 2006: Board Oversight Group on Leadership
Development Pilot
Chicago, Il
The Board Oversight Group (BOG) on Leadership Development organized
a pilot for two of the training modules. This was a great weekend to interact
with other ACS volunteers, participate in high quality training and to evaluate
what the BOG has already put together.

This is the premier Med. Chem. conference and the attendees discussed
cutting edge work while enjoying extensive opportunities to interact and to
take part in outdoor activities. I served as vice Chair-elect and with serve in
a Leadership role for the next two conferences.

significant discussion related to the new section committee focused on
enhancing communication with the Topical Groups.

The Executive Committee discussed the agenda for the San Francisco
National Meeting and the Local Section "Outstanding" performance awards.

This group charged with developing tools to help Regions and Regional
Meetings be all they can be met for the last time.
May 25th, 2006: North Jersey Executive Committee Operations e-mail
Initiated a discussion about ways to enhance the effectiveness and
efficiency of the Section's Executive Committee meetings while also
improving the dialog about key issues within the Committee and with
Section members.
May 25th, 2006: Board Oversight Group Metrics Sub-Group
Teleconference
A short discussion with Paul Jones and Richard Cobb about ways to
evaluate and track the success of the new ACS Leadership Development
activities.
May 22-24th, 2006: Preparing the LSAC Response to the ACS
Governance Review Task Force Ideas
I served on the Geographical Organization group and wanted to ensure that
LSAC's comments addressed the key issues but also focused the
discussion on ways to enhance member value and benefits.

The RSC (US East Coast) section held its Spring meeting and Dr. Paul
Stonehart, a former section President, gave a talk on "Making Money in
Chemistry".

The short Executive Committee meeting focused on ways to more
effectively involve Topical Groups and their Leaders in wider Section and
ACS discussions. I was delighted to present Bill Suits with the Section's
Burton C. Beldon Distinguished Srvice Award for his many and varied
contributions to the ACS and the Section.
May 17th, 2006: Sanofi-Aventis Visions in Chemistry Symposium

I attended this wonderful symposium featuring outstanding talks and
excellent opportunities to meet Chemists from a wide range of NJ
organizations.
May 12th: ReACT Teleconference
This focused on further developing the Mission and Vision statements for
Regional Boards and Regional Meetings.
May 8th, 2006: Established "LunkheadIdeas.org"
The idea of "Lunkhead Ideas" and their potential to transform ACS
appeared at the ACS Local Section Summit. To learn more see the new

Washington, DC
LSAC invited a broad selection of diverse ACS members to come together
with the LSAC Executive Committee, Staff and a consultant to discuss how
to build the future of Local Sections and ACS.

Members of the Regional Activities Team discussed progress on action
items and planned the agenda for their next face-to-face meeting.

The members of LSAC spend a great deal of time and effort reviewing and
giving feedback on Local Section Annual Reports.

leadership system and provided input and guidance.

"TheIndicator.org" web-site and increase revenue and member service.

and questioned experts who described how they made some of their event
or processes outstanding.

Discussion about holding an ACS/RSC event in Cambridge along the lines

ACS Chemluminary Award for joint activities

Chaired the annual meeting of the group which is responsible for all aspects
of the Indicator's operation. The Indicator is the newsletter of the North
Jersey and New York ACS Sections.

To express my interest in serving on the ACS Committee on Committees.
January 5th, 2006: North Jersey's National Award Committee
Contacted key leaders at the large companies employing chemists in the
New Jersey area and encouraged them to nominate their chemists for some
of the National ACS awards. Val Kuck and I lead the Section's National
Award Committee which tries to increase the number of Section members
nominated for National Awards.
